HRS would like to build a new building called RIVA on the site of the former Hotel Metropol. The juried project of an architectural competition was designed according to the wishes and specifications of the city of Arbon and would offer the population numerous benefits, including a restaurant, bar, garden terrace, halls, meeting rooms, hotel rooms and public access to the park and the lake.
Arbon's city council, which expressly supports the RIVA, wants the population to vote next year on a referendum against it and on a linked local planning revision. HRS is looking forward to the referendum with confidence. In case of a rejection, an alternative project in standard construction was presented to the public today, which fulfills all building law standards and could be built within a reasonable period of time after a "No" to RIVA at the ballot box. The corresponding building application will be made public by the city next Friday. The alternative project with 48 condominiums envisages a four-story (plus attic) private residential development with underground parking without public uses.
In the view of HRS, RIVA is an excellent project in the right place. The alternative project will therefore only be considered if RIVA is rejected at the ballot box. By presenting the alternative project at an early stage, HRS wants to create clarity and avoid unrealistic discussions about what, in what form and with what use could be built on the site of the former Hotel Metropol in the event that RIVA is rejected.
